SAFE OPERATION OF LIFTING MACHINERY

When examining the accidents at work in 2022, the following observations can be made: 1018 accidents occurred in the construction sector and 2945 in the transport and storage sector. A high percentage of these two areas concern SKOH (construction sites in Iváncsa and sites in Komárom). Some of the accidents were caused by the improper use of lifting equipment, which also includes human factors (e.g. fatigue, inattention).

To avoid further accidents, SKOH has installed and is installing safety devices on these dangerous vehicles, with a view to eliminate human error and distraction.

Regarding the protection of persons and goods, the following changes will be made to the devices:

Reversing camera

Anyone involved in road transport of any kind has already experienced the dangerous situation that can arise with the presence of an “invisible” person or object in the blind spot of a device. This danger is particularly acute, for example, when using a lift truck in warehouse aisles and between shelving systems. To avoid or minimise this risk, a so-called “reversing camera” has been installed on our equipment.

Lifting machine closure

An additional hazard is the safety belt installed to protect the operator’s physical safety, whereby if the operator does not “buckle up” the device will disable the start-up until buckling up has taken place.

Rear lamp

When the lifting machinery ceases to be used, the instructions to prevent unauthorised use (locking of the lifting machinery) must be fully complied with.

Based on the “see and be seen” principle, several of our vehicles were not equipped with rear lights, but in 2023 this shortcoming was remedied once the right service had been selected.

Regarding the above changes, it can be seen that our company is doing its utmost to protect the physical integrity of its employees and to create a workplace that does not endanger health and safety, while respecting and complying with the rules set by current legislation and standards.
